Knees seem quite complex yet the principles of managing them may be relatively straightforward ? My left knee seems to suffer from getting out of the drivers' seat when you take the whole of our body weight on the medial aspect of your left knee as you transfer your weight on to the foot planted outside the door. Is it a common injury ?

You're right the management of knees is relatively straightforward - I think it helps that its a hinge joint! Medial knee pain, when put under stress such as you describe, is quite common. It usually suggests an overstretch of the ligament on that side and ensuring that footwear offers enough arch support and that the inner knee muscles are as strong as possible is essential. Some of the exercises I describe in prep for skiing may well help you.
